Group History

The history of the Tarxien Scout Group can be traced back to 1935, when Mr Joe Scicluna formed the 1st Tarxien Scout Group. The group was successful for a while, but the outbreak of the Second World War in Malta caused the group to halt 4 years later in 1939.

This however was not the end, and 49 years later the group was reborn, thanks to the effort of Mr David Dowdal. On the 16 June, the group’s opening ceremony was held at St John Bosco Centre, and numerous guests were invited including village representatives such as the parish priest Dun Dione Cutajar, Leaders of the Tarxien Girl Guides as well as the Fgura Scout Group.

The 20 November 1988 marked the groups first public appearance, as a church parade was held, while the year after a group investiture was held to celebrate the groups first anniversary.

Never looking back, the group has continued to grow over the years, always placing utmost emphasis on the education of the youth entrusted to it, using ideas developed by Lord Robert Baden Powel over a century ago.
